Luisa-Maria MacCormack is an artist, lecturer in Feminist Art History, and the founder of The Feminist Lecture Program. Her multidisciplinary practice investigates the intersections of Feminist Critical Theory, Ecology, Magic, and Religion, proposing an alternative vision of a world where humans recognize their place within a more-than-human landscape.
Working across painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, Luisa reimagines religious art and sacred spaces as sites where the spiritual and natural worlds converge. Influenced by themes of eco-horror, a reimagined vegetal spirituality, and a deep interest in Paleolithic art and archaeology, her work reflects on the metamorphic nature of the human and more than human body. Through this lens, her works often meditate on the fluidity of time and the slippery, elusive nature of our deep past, questioning how our relationship to deep time has the capacity to shape our understanding of the present.
Through a writing practice that often runs parallel to her studio practice, MacCormack weaves a speculative mythic landscape of a world dominated by worship of the non-human, the more-than-human, reimagining how our religious art and sacred spaces could evolve if we embraced a profound connection with the innate spirituality of the natural world.
